About the Orchestra
Katie_and_Isla.jpg

The orchestra has been playing for more than 25 years, meeting every Monday night of the academic year at the Unitarian church hall on the corner of Ullet Road and York Avenue, in the Sefton Park area of Liverpool. Each week around sixteen to twenty of our members come along. The music we play comes from all periods including Renaissance, Baroque and 20th century, and features pieces familiar to everyone who loves string music, such as Tchaikovsky's Serenade, Handel's Concerto Grossi and Britten's Simple Symphony. We have recently accompanied soloists in several concertos, including Telemann's viola concerto, Bach and Vivaldi violin concertos, and a guitar concerto of Vivaldi.

Although there are no formal concerts, the Orchestra in more recent years has put on informal recitals in the church hall to show the church members and the local community the sort of things we do. They are very relaxed affairs and we invite listeners to join us for tea and cake followed by a short concert. We try to perform a range of pieces from the well known to the unusual. From recent concerts we have been able to make donations to charities including Marie Curie and Barnardos.

If you play violin, viola, cello or double bass why not get in touch and come along as new players are always very welcome.
